Kelly has studied at Columbia Southern University in Occupational Safety and Health between 2012 and 2018, then at Saginaw Valley State University in Criminal Justice/Police Science between 1987 and 1989.

Kelly worked for U.S. Army Reserve as Military Police between Dec 1986 and Nov 1990.
