Howard has studied at San Francisco State University in Speech Communication and Rhetoric between 1971 and 1973, then at Chapman University in Undergraduate Study between 1969 and 1971.

Howard worked for The Westin St. Francis Hotel as Conference Services Manager and Hotel Historian between Feb 1975 and Apr 2005.
