Tom has studied at Universiteit Gent in Bioscience Engineering: Chemistry and Bioprocess Technology between 2008 and 2010, then at Hogeschool West-Vlaanderen in Industrial Sciences: Biochemistry between 2004 and 2008.

Tom worked for Ablynx as Associate Scientist - Protein Modelling / Bioinformatics / Data Management between Oct 2015 and Apr 2018, for Ghent University, InBio.be as Postdoctoral Researcher between Jan 2011 and Sep 2015, for Ghent University as Master student between Aug 2009 and Jun 2010, for Hogeschool West-Vlaanderen as Master student between Oct 2007 and Mar 2008.
